TEMPLE HISTORY - A not-so-quick run-down, 4 weeks in
(for the tl;dr people, jump down to the conclusion and suggestion, below)
WEEK 1: Making Movies
Temple was a big hit during Week 1 in Making Movies. It was such a big a hit, Playata saw the error of their ways when over a 100 studios qualified for rewards and Playata quickly instituted a threshold of 3,000 points before a studio could qualify in gaining rewards for Week 2.
One notable side effect was realized with so many studios qualifying for reward in Week 1 was the gap in reward-value between one rank versus the next rank was extremely small and inconsequential. Example, One studio would have 55 diamonds for reward, the rank below that would have 52 and the one below that would get 50. (examples given, are for illustrative purpose)
WEEK 2: Energy / Time Missions
Week 2 saw us gaining Temple points for using Energy in Time Missions. But with the new 3K threshold in place, not as many studios qualified (less than 40) for reward.
And the gap between the ranks in reward value opened up a little more. Example, one studio would have 55 diamonds for reward, and the one below that rank would have 44 and the one below that would get 32.
WEEK 3: Convention showings
With the 3K threshold still in place, Week 3 saw the ill-fated Convention showing challenge greatly favor studios willing to spend diamonds especially in light of how infrequent the convention events were held that week. There may have been a total of 5 or 6 conventions that week, and only 1 in the first 3 days.
The gap per rank was even more staggering... with only 11 studios meeting threshold, the TOPS in Temple points would receive the 290+ (or more) studio diamonds (as usual), while the last place 11th ranked (lowest qualified studio) would get 3 diamonds (also as usual, the last place studio has received 3 diamonds in each of the temple challenges no matter how many studios qualified before them)... and the 9 ranked studios in between would see the distribution of reward payout have the largest gap in scale to date. In this example the 9th rank studio would have 55 diamonds for reward, the 10th rank studio would get 29, and the last place 11th rank studio gets 3.
WEEK 4: Party Missions
Now fast forward to the current Week 4 where the Temple challenge is based on conducting the most Party Missions. These missions are hinged on getting a Party ticket (first), which are found in specially marked missions and those only happen about once a level. This challenge should favor studios with the most active lower level players as they are able to level-up faster and in theory obtain more party passes.
As of this writing, there are less than 24 hours remaining for this week's Temple challenge and a total of 26 studios (more than 2x the 11 that did qualify in Week 3) have already surpassed the 3K threshold and qualified for rewards.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bottom Line: Conclusion and Suggestion
The bottom line is Temple challenges will almost always favor the studios with the most active members and on occasion the studios possessing the individuals with the most collective diamond-spending power. Temple is a nice addition for creating a sense of camaraderie for studios in accomplishing a challenge or celebrating their job well-done. And for now, Temple challenges are the only source of non-cash-paid-for diamonds for studios to earn. Even the little studios can get involved, provided the 3K threshold doesn't hold them back.
My only advise would be to go back to Week 1, remove the 3K restriction, and let the spoils go to all involved, including the little studios.
