This has probably been suggested before, I was too lazy to do a search on the topic and I just quickly scanned the first page... but anyway, here goes:

 

Would it be difficult to develop a global chat in addition to the current studio chat?

 

As it stands now, there is almost zero interaction between players outside of studios. We fight, compete in the temple, vote for films, but never get to banter, congratulate each other, praise someone's creative film title and/or cover work, or simply get to know each other and have fun.

 

Sure, there is the messaging system, but it's cumbersome, slow, and it's only you and one other person. And then there are these forums, but they're not within the game proper and used by what, 1-5% of the population?

 

I feel a global chat would make new players stick around longer, get them more involved and invited into a studio more quickly. Of course we'd have to have a way to deal with spammers and other such jerks, but a simple ignore function would fit the bill.

 

Global chat could share the same tab as studio chat (and should be accessible to people who aren't in a studio), and you should be able to join/leave the global channel, as well as mute/unmute (or block/unblock, ignore/unignore) players. We already have a /studio command, so imagine a /global command - that's about the gist of it.

 

With a studio chat system already in place, the technical groundwork has already been done, so I wouldn't think this to be a complex addition to the game.

I hope that's gonna be a part of the "cool new feature our developers and designers are currently working on" , announced twice in patch notes.

Would be good if the "Your Star" tab works similar to the "Your studio" tab then including the expansion tools for the room and a chat field to talk at least server-wide or to everybody in the friend list. It's indeed inconvenient to talk to friends from other studios by mass messaging but it happens quite often so the need is there.

I have to admit, I like the idea, in a certain way. A 'global chat' would require some observations, as you can get into arguments more easy, being competitive and stuff. Plus you might not be able to click an ignore button. But on the plus side, it could also bring a lot of fun and make studios interact more together.

 

On a different note, for example the private chat between you and one of your friends in the studio (the blue chat), would be nice if you can also do a chat with friends outside the studio, instead of sending 15 messages up and down. I've actually tried once if it would work, sadly not.

Oh a simple /to anyone would be awesome!

The messaging system works ok but it's indeed cumbersome.

And more than that, most people find it harder to start than to actually have a conversation.

If you could just start with a simple "hi" instead of having to find a reason why you want to talk...

Also, spam could easily be dealt with by tying the possibility to chat to someone being in your friendslist.

*It might get some recruiting spam out of our mailboxes - though almost just much a pain to have it in a chat

* a way to promote a film cover you're proud of
* A way to say "Hey! please join the convention so it don't fail!"

On the down side
 

* People saying "Hey! please join the convention so it don't fail!"
* Recruitment spam

* People soliciting for cyber chat (Okay maybe that's a plus for some but not for me)

* who in their right mind wants the job of policing it?

 

overall thought is it would be a nice option as long as you can opt out and/or have a block feature

Just a short suggestion... The German forum has a 'shoutbox' at the top, which also can function a bit as a global chat. It would be a great addition to the forum and the UK servers perhaps? And it could actually be used as a pilot for 'global chat' ?

Hi, Ive just joined the game and I was supriosed there was no global chat . How about using a chat server and making a room on it?

There are plenty of third party apps that can be used for free. Make a room and invite who you like.

a ticking time bomb is more like it, i think lol...it'd only be a matter of time before all < deleted > broke loose.

give it a trial run on discord or something and see how it goes lol
