They take up the same amount of space even when closed. If you have topics you want closed just let us know on that topic and we will be happy to close it but there is always the chance that someone may visit the forum who can answer the question. 
We get new members daily.

I have noticed that a lot of questions and suggestions within the forum go unanswered.
Maybe these topics/suggestions should be closed if no one wants to or can answer them?
It's just taking up space .... in my opinion.
