I received a refinement item that says "will reduce your trophy penalty by 14%".

 What is a trophy penalty? Is this a keeper or not?

Every trophy that your studio wins reduces your basic skill. That's called trophy penalty. This means that your refinement reduces this penalty. As simple as that...

So does that mean that if your studio does not have any trophies, this refinement is useless?

It currently will have no effect, since if you have no trophies, you have no trophy penalty... not exactly useless, but a different refinement might benefit you more at the moment...

I've got one too, do I need to keep it? I've got another item higher in strength that I could use.

Do you currently have a trophy?  I wouldn't necessarily sell the item, but if you have a stronger item, or one with a refinement that currently would benifit you more, I'd use that one for now instead...

No I don't have a trophy so yes I replaced it with a stronger item but I still kept it. Thanks Synn.

Can someone explain to me how the trophy penalty refinement works?

 

For instance, my team has two trophies. So that is -20% stats because of the trophy.

I have a ring that says my trophy penalty is reduced by 18%.

 

So then shouldn't my stats only be -2% in a team fight?

 

The reason I ask is because in the last team fight, it appears the ring was not used and I still fought with -20% stats.

It's simple... It reduces 18% of the 20% penalty.  I don't know how else to explain it, but let's try graphically! lol xD
