Maybe something kinda-sorta like RPG tactics could be introduced with the missiles? I mean at the moment they all do exactly the same thing, plus to damage. What if they were more varied? Instead of just 'missiles' you have 'weapons', and some of them are missiles like now (plus to damage), some of them are shields (instead of doing damage to the enemy it absorbs damage taken), something like that?
And currently you can't refine missiles, what if you could, and those missile refinements were specifically for studio fights? Anyone who's going it alone without a studio isn't hurt because missile refinements won't work during solo fights anyway, but most players by the time they level up enough to get missiles are going to be in a studio I'd imagine. And instead of the refinements being just for the player, they're for the studio - say a common refinement is '5% of this weapon's effect applies to studio members', so if you're in a studio fight and you have that item equipped, if its basic property is +1000 damage for you (just for example) then all the other players in the studio get +50 damage on their attacks as well during that studio fight. Rare and epic refinements could increase the percentage that gets applied to studio members. And like the current refinements on other things, as well as 'base stats' increases, there could be a few special refinements that throw weird special powers into the mix, like 'nullify one enemy weapon during this fight, including its bonuses to enemy studio members', or one that does a heap of extra damage but doesn't give bonuses to anyone else, they'd all have pros and cons.
It'd still be kind of random compared to a proper hands-on fight game, since the fights happen automatically and you don't directly control your player during battle, and you'd always be juggling stats and new refinements (like with other clothing already) and I don't really imagine a lot of studios would go to the hassle of trying to precisely manage all their items on all their players all the time. But you could have a little bit of influence over how things go, you could decide to be a 'blocker' and use a shield with a refinement that grants extra defence to other studio members, or be an attacker and just have a maximum-damage build, and if you know your studio has a couple of blockers already, you can think, okay, I'll be an attacker then. Plus (good for the game's finances) people could be spending diamonds on trying to get the ideal refinement they want on their weapon. It'd be a lot of work to figure out all the numbers and balance it, but I think if the developers ever decided to do a big 'studio combat update' that could be a fun direction to go.
