There is some controversy about how useful the Hunting Instinct is, but there is one certain thing.  It is completely useless if you don't know how to use it.

The Hunting Instinct can be an award from the Advent Calendar or from the Casino.  You can also buy it from the overview map, or from any area.

If you click on the icon above, you will be prompted to buy. The Hunting Instinct costs 19 diamonds for an hour.

After buying it, the Hunting Instinct icon is replaced with two different icons.  The Pink Hunting Instinct searches for the mission with the best experience reward per energy used.

The Green Hunting Instinct Icon finds the mission with the best notes reward per energy used. The energy reward takes the sell cost of items into account when calculating the value of a mission.

Note that the hunting instinct does NOT take into account the incredible value of a party ticket. If you have not gotten your party ticket for the day, you should always use the green hunting instinct icon from the overview map. That will let you scan for a party ticket so you do not miss it.

Select the icon for the mission type you prefer, and you will be transported to the appropriate area, with the confirmation message to accept the mission already on screen. Simply click OK to accept the mission!

Hope this helps!

Perfect guide, Captc!

I received it as an advent reward this morning and

1. the calculation works perfect now - even if your studio has studio boosters active.

2. it does not show a preference for succes missions (so if you chase those: keep an extra eye out).

3. it does not discriminate between normal and reset missions (so expect your map to be refreshed a lot during special events).

4. it does not give preference to party ticket missions (so keep an eye out because you could miss out on one).

All in all a wonderful tool really. Too bad about the normal pricing, length of time it's active and its ticket-presence indifference.

I have confirmed that it finds party tickets, analis. The new update seems to have fixed that.

It does not, sweetie.

I was given the choice to do another, more lucrative mission.

While a party ticket had already spawned on my map.

The next option the Instinct gave me was again an other mission.

Perhaps yours was also simply the most valuable mission available?

It's possible I miscalculated, but I was pretty certain I found another mission with a higher reward.

I will consider it still an open question until I get another chance to verify.  In the meantime, I will update the text in the guide.

I posted this guide, by the way, because I saw three separate "I got the hunting instinct in Casino, I didn't see anything different" posts within 24 hours, both here and in studio forums...

Perhaps those people are in studio's without studio boosters?

It's super fun to use when it's accurate - as it is now when you DO have those boosters.

Really enjoyed my 6h of careless playtime today. Like flying on automatic pilot for a change.

Naw, we have the boosters on all the time, both studios.

Mostly newer players who missed that little frill.

I will consider it still an open question until I get another chance to verify.

It didn't register the Party Ticket as more valuable again.

I had the Hunting Instinct again:

there were 2 missions in Los Vengeles:

11 energy for 86.600 notes and a party ticket.

2 energy for 3.820 notes and a 29.771 item.

Hunting Instinct pointed out the latter.

Funny detail: I went for the latter as I'm only just starting my day and I'm sure another ticket will pop up.

And immediately again a party ticket popped up in Los Vengeles (6 energy for 5.050 notes and a ticket).

Hunting Instinct pointed at a 3 energy 30.000 notes mission in Industrial Area.

I will take that as proven, then.  Thanks for the careful documentation, Analis!

I will update the text to add a warning.

I hardly use Hunting Instinct.  When it is "ON" is there a flashing icon, or a timer-countdown to indicate you are using it?

It seems most of the time when it is "won" the clock starts immediately at the time of redemption.  I would rather see it go to your email with a 24 hours "use-it-or-lose-it" countdown, sort of like your EXTRA ENERGY you win from conventions.

It just creates two icons where there were only one.  But you don't HAVE to use the coupon right away.

As of a patch in late January, 2018: The hunting instinct DOES care about party tickets now. And if there is a party ticket on the map, there will be a third icon that will take you to that mission.
