Okay, there are certain sound effects in the game which translate to certain things happening, lke when someone comes into the studio, or a duel attack etc, but there is one sound that has annoyed the living hell out of me, it is like a loud whirring sound every so often, like a wind up toy sound but faster, and for the life of me I cannot associate it to anything happening in the game screen, does anyone here know what it is?

That sound means Caitlin is ready to duel.

When you unload all your courage on other players, your "fist" goes empty.

The moment when your "fist" goes full again, that's when you get that whir.

I always thought that sound was like a chain or a crank being pulled.  As if it were to denote, "reset".  It is the first level of the fist being filled as Analis pointed out.  There are 4 more units to be filled in the next 4 hours.  ironically, the first unit only takes 10 minutes to fill... so always drain your first when you first come on, especially during these Temple-duel challenges.

I did not realise that the first one takes only ten minutes, and the rest so much longer, it is these little tricks of the game I need to discover more about

From the miscellaneous tricks I share with my studio mates:

 

"If you do not currently have enough courage for a duel, you gain a point every 30 seconds. After you have enough courage to duel, you gain an additional point every 3 minutes. Keeping your bar empty, with no trophies, you can duel every 10 minutes, and you can do 5 duels in less than an hour. If you just let your bar fill, it takes 4 hours 10 minutes to gain enough courage for 5 duels. Keep that bar empty!"

EXACTLY!  If you are observant to that sound, it's actually signalling that you are ready for your next duel once again with that first unit of fist filled; it turns out that annoying sound (I used to hate it too) is actually "your friend".

PS: The sound is only played at the first unit of fill, not the next 2 through 5.

I've not heard this sound in the game (That I'm aware of). I saw this post and went to check it out. Just up from a short rest so fist was full. did 5 duels and waited for the sound. Nothing. Well, maybe I got distracted. Try again This time I watched as countdown got close. Still nothing.

I have my sounds set to porn-like. Maybe that's why? No corresponding noise in that sound profile?

I actually have the sounds set the same as you, but as of today there seems to be a glitch and I am not hearing it also, so might just be a temp problem

I was hoping for something funny in the porn-like sounds,lol. But yeah. Don't recall hearing it before I switched either. I know for me, there's no worse sound than the failed mission one DING-da-ding-DONG(though failed career boss is pretty close) DEw doop dee DEW doo!

Yea I know that failed mission sound, especially if the mission was for something really awesome like, then followed by the sound I make when I am bitterly disappointed
