There's no reason to have to have temple be conventions again just because 1 complete is an event requirement. The event posts the time so having them appear as they would normally would work just fine. Having this up again so soon has created such apathy that it will be difficult for some players to complete their event.

Temples work through competition.

Between the members within your own studio ànd against other studios.

We briefly discussed a boycott of this umpteenth convention temple yesterday.

The thing is that we've all seen before how one individual can just go and claim a conv.

So there's no use in trying to get every studio on one line. Just check the current results.

There's always someone who goes "hey… I can win this crap!" when no-one else goes for it.

And then there's always someone who follows that one and so on and so on.

I think most of you know I am a pretty competitive person. But while I was born at night, it wasn't LAST night. I view these repetitive convention temples as good marketing, using my competitiveness to cover up for a poor playing experience. But guess what? I turn off or ignore other annoying marketing pitches.

I think the early conventions will have people trying to make their holiday requirements. If I am on during a convention and a teammate needs it to make the holiday event, I am going to be very conflicted.

But watching someone else be competitive while I choose not to be? I'm not tempted at all.  More power to you, sucker.

My biggest objection to conventions is that they tie me to the computer. The number of shows you can do are limited by time... so clicks are needed every few minutes.

What if conventions operated the same way movies do? That is a resource limited model. A store of 'convention energy' builds up, which might max out every 15 minutes. You use convention energy to run shows until you run out of convention energy. Diamonds would be used to buy more convention energy, just like buying extra film energy. So people who want to buy the convention can still do so, but players can do something else for 10 minutes, come back and participate fully in the convention, without being penalized for having a life with other things to do.

Heck, I might not mind a 2 hour convention nearly as badly if I could break it up into 15 minute chunks.

So, I don't want this to be just a gripe session. How can Playata make temple conventions more palatable?

One specific (and pointed) suggestion IceyAngels made was that convention temples be less frequent.

Wuffy has suggested that the very long conventions, 90 minutes or 2 hours, are particularly troublesome.  (I agree, they take so much time and disrupt so much of your day, that the energy you gain from participating is useless. You can't use your normal energy, let alone the extra.) So let's make the suggestion that shorter conventions, the normal 30 minute to hour ones, would be preferred.

Any other suggestions?

scrap them altogether. the convulsion temples only benefit the people who get their diamonds for nothing

for all those who feel the conventions occur more often recently we at our studio started to keep track of temple
here is what we had for the last 3 months (12 temple runs)

3 conventions, 2 movie points, 2 party points, 2 selling items and 3 skill based or experience based temple!
(needless to say this was temple we had halloween and first of december specials that included conventions too)
I'm fine with those skill or exp based ones but party based ones (before the update - and hell, even after the once a day update) movie points and the eternally damned infamous convention based one are just time hug and evey time and with each update the tend to get longer and more time consuming
and then there is diamonds..... honestly I get it they need money but they are gradually making this pay2win game with all those long temples I mentioned you can spent diamonds to score more or higher and honestly their ignorance towards what we all say is infuriating (at least to me)

To improve this temple, yes they could remove it altogether. That's probably the best solution, but ultimately, that's not going to happen I don't think. From a business point of view, it doesn't make sense.

To make convention temples more tolerable, I'd suggest having them a lot less frequently than we're getting them now. Once a month is too frequent for my liking, and from everything else I'm hearing, for everyone else too. I'd be much more forgiving of conventions if they were a less frequent thing and cycled just as often as the other temples, especially as we haven't seen some of them in what feels like ages e.g. skill point temple.

I heartily agree about the energy vouchers being nearly useless. I'm normally exhausted by the time I'm done with regular energy. What would be a good alternative that wouldn't upset the balance of things? I'd love to see it be a free refine spin or wash. Or straight up exp or notes. Missiles would always be welcome, or even a voucher of a few diamond value towards an item that cost diamonds in the shop.

Concerning convention temples, I'd be fine if they were never the temple objective. Short of that, anything less than what I've seen since I returned in March would be an improvement. I will let others hammer out what to actually suggest as a frequency.

The idea of changing how the convention works itself I think is a great idea. I liked the suggestion of having it run like a film shoot. I also suggested myself in some thread to make it more like a party with varying kinds of missions and ones of different lengths and a big skill one at the end where players could make a big comeback if it looked like it may fail.

The frequency and duration are the main problems in this one.

There were complaints when the frequency was too low, there are complaints now the frequency is too high

Breaking the day up into 4 slots 6 hours apart will provide everyone ample opportunity to attend conventions

Limiting the number of conventions you can attend to one or two per day will make it fair on the ones who are time poor

- it will also prevent super competitive players from having to stay up all night :)

Restricting the time of conventions to the same length for each convention will also even the playing field

and time limiting conventions to either 30,or 60 minutes will prevent the monotony.

I think I liked Caps idea of changing the format a little but I'd like it rewritten so i can get a clearer picture on what he means.

Merry Xmas BBW

To be honest, I don’t give a damn about this anymore. I was so annoyed by the convention Temple and the game as a whole two weeks ago that I felt like I won’t be playing much longer... And I even said it to couple of people that I’m not enjoying the game anymore and that I might quit it altogether in the foreseeable future. We had the conventions, extra energy from the advent calendar, newly introduced daily parties... it was just too much at once and at a time when I was also sick.

Since then I again found some enthusiasm for the game, even though it continues to annoy me every now and then in various way (by too much of bad luck, by the growing list of daily tasks, by the pandering to diamond spenders etc.). It was obvious that the convention Temple was coming again as soon as the Christmas special started, even though it's totally stupid to schedule it during this particular week. But I don't care. I already participated in a successful convention yesterday and thus completed the Christmas special, so I don't have to do a single more convention show if I don't want to. It's quite possible that many of the conventions will be failures anyway, given the unfortunate timing... Thus I will just take it easy this week and do only as many conventions as I have the mood and time for... which will be much less than in the past.

After all, it's not a big deal if we win a couple of skill points less than we usually do... In my studio, you don't have a knife on your neck to perform. I'm collecting Temple points because I want to, not because I have to. And most of the times even if you're very active, the impact of your individual contribution isn't that big in terms of the final standing and reward anyway. If it helps at all, it’s usually only worth one extra skill point and a improvement of one or two places in the rankings, since the gaps between studios are so big and the reward differences outside the Top 3 so minimal.

I am in complete agreement with the distribution of rewards being counter-productive to motivating participation. I brought it up in the more generic discussion on Temples somewhere :)

Can anyone guess what they'll be doing for the new years event.... Sigh.

Would it be too much to ask that the devs respond to the community in a statement saying "we have heard you don't like convention temples much so we will be reducing the frequency of their occurrence until we come up with a way of making them better"?
