I've started playing recently and every time I can level up, I choose charisma because I love to always deliver crits, but it might not be a wise choice, so I wanted to ask, what should I level up?

It's a very difficult question, and a lot depends on your build and equipment...

personally, I prefer to dodge, so I tend to favor finesse, but high stamina means you can absorb more hits before going down... I tend to build those two the most, but try to keep things pretty much in balance as well...

To be honest I find a lot of the time whatever I'm trying to do with stats all gets muddled around by whatever new items I'm picking up. I mean normally I think strength isn't that important because you have missiles to make up for it, so I like having higher stats in the other three, but it a new belt or something turns up, boom, suddenly strength is my highest stat and it can take a couple of days using the washing machine to move the item's stats around. And by then probably a new item has turned up, and you start all over again. So what I do now, really, is just have all my stats completely even, and use the washing machine to go for stamina/charisma/finesse but try not to really worry where those stats are on any given day, because it's always going to change again. And if I have a few days where things are way out of balance, and I'm not as powerful duelling, it's no big deal, the game's not going away so I can take my time and let it fix itself in the long run.

I agree with Kaitee, the total share of your stats is going to be mostly from items, I frequently get one stat way up high or way down low at times, especially if I have a really good party with several new items worthy of wearing. At the moment I have a very high stamina and relatively low charisma due almost exclusively to the items I'm wearing.

In my opinion no single stat should be neglected, and having one stat way above the others don't seem to give any huge advantage. The fights seem to be fairly random (I have had fights where I consistently make less damage than my opponent despite having a higher average damage). There is a fair bit of dice-rolling in fights, so even if you have a stat advantage you can still lose (just check out the stats in hard fighting missions).

I tend to use free skill points to improve the most expensive stat while I use notes for a stat that is at present low with very little discrimination between the different skills (though for some reason I am a little prejudiced against strength...). I have read advice like the one Jesus gave. but I think it is still important to never let any stat fall too much behind, and as SPs get more expensive to buy with notes, it's expedient to boost a cheap stat that has been neglected.

Having a huge stamina doesnt help out i think because if you have a low charisma you take 2 or 3 criticals in a row and bye bye stamina. Plus also a low fitness wont allow you to hit others. That´s why i defend that order in skill points :)

And also a high fitness means that you will dodge hits from enemies, which is a better defense than stamina

I like to keep my basic stats equal.

And with items I try to focus on charisma and finesse, with the help of the washing machine. :P

Bumping this topic because recently, someone expressed frustration over dueling. I had an exchange in game with them and offered some tips that are pretty consistent with the thoughts in this thread. I am certainly no expert. I find myself confounded as much as anyone over stats, I'm sure.

I go through funks with it, seeming to do well for a time and then all of a sudden, I can't fight my way out of a wet paper bag until some new gear changes things up or something.

Just a casual now

This is an old topic for sure, but it is actually the crux of this game.  BBE is a fighting game first with tongue-in-cheek porn overtones.

Nothing like it out there in the gaming world that I know of, which sort of makes it an odd yet unique game...   (smug)
