I guess it's always hard to know other people's thoughts, so I'd like to know if people take BBE seriously. Calling it silly is not a criticism any more than calling a silly comedy silly or accepting that anything can be a bit silly. I don't think the people making this game expect to be put on a pedestal beside Goethe for their work.

The way the game is presented, both the art style and the mission texts for instance, as well as the items, seem to make it clear that this is not intended as a serious simulator of any kind but just a fun variation of countless other browser RPGs (unless there is some weird German thing going on that is lost in translation or I'm just too thick to pick up on, but I doubt that).

To me the point of any game is to have fun, and I guess I'm just wondering whether other players do look at the game as a serious pursuit. For me, it feels a bit like being in a big adult playground playing with barbie dolls with a bunch of strangers (which I again don't mean as a criticism or a complaint, I do like to be a bit childish sometimes). I don't know anything about the average age of players, obviously, but to me this is just harmless, silly fun for grownups.

I just wanted to hear from other people, whether they view the game more as a competition. I can't really see it since there is basically no skill involved in being a successful player other than putting in the time. Anyway, I just wanted to know whether my attitude is common or some bizarre outlier in a community that views this as a serious struggle to be the top player or in the top studio. I'm not trying to put people down for putting in time and/or money (I have invested a little time and money myself, but I think that's hardly more than many of us do all the time for other forms of innocuous entertainment), I'm just curious how others see the game. Sure, I get that the top studio people (like the Champagne Room on UK2) can take some pride in being number one, but I wonder whether people who have played for months and months think of this as more than just a bit of fun.

Personally, I think the game is a bit tongue-in-cheek to be taken totally seriously...

sure, I am in studios which take parts of the game pretty seriously, but I just don't want to let my teams down, to eventually get every outfit piece available, to get all accomplishment prizes possible, and to have fun a couple of hours a day.

I'm kinda addicted to the single player aspect of it. I don't collect the outfits, but rather trying to get the successes that don't require massive amounts of diamonds spent x) while chatting about the game and other stuffs in studio chat :P And at the same time, I don't want to let my studio down either so I pay a few diamonds to have proper refinements as well ^.^

Right now, I don't think there's anything to be competitive about.. the Big Bang Awards would of been quite an awesome way of competing, I love to just vote for the better looking cover but sadly those can be manipulated with silly 5!! diamond rerolls as well  (angry)

So noo I don't think you are silly :P

I guess I invest a fair bit in the game, I've been playing for quite a while (not quite a year yet, but that 200-diamond 'Fulltime On' success is coming up soon for me, yay) and I usually go through all the energy that's available in a weekday, so that's a fair bit of playing. I do agree with you I think, there's a competitive angle in the game, but I don't feel the point of playing is to be number one. I managed that one time (just by luck I think) with the Big Bang Award for movies, I had a movie come up #1, and that was awesome, but other weeks it hasn't happened that way (today I was 120-something) and that's fine, I'm happy - I'm not sitting here cursing and thinking the last week was pointless just because I didn't come out on top. And I'm part of a studio (an awesome one), I love feeling like I'm doing my part for the team and I love it when we win a battle, but when we lose, it's cool, there's always tomorrow, and it's not like we're losing character levels or items or something. I suppose I'm not a very competitive person really.

I agree too that BBE is basically a bit of fun, I know it's got a stat engine behind it but it's not a full-on game like I dunno WoW or Eve (neither of which I've played, I'm just going off what I hear) where if you're not going to really understand the stats and commit to optimising and hardcore levelling you're never going to get anything much out of them. But that's okay, I wouldn't want all games to be those big serious stat-crunching monsters, it'd be like every movie being Saving Private Ryan, sure it's great but sometimes you want to watch a Bugs Bunny cartoon, and that's great too. I think for what it wants to be, BBE is a really quality game, the art is great, the animations are great, the writing is fun and interesting, the stats and items are put together in a way that's really easy to understand and make work without having to make an Excel spreadsheet to figure out how to level your character, and there are so few games that actually make porn seem fun and friendly, it's kind of unique in that (I don't know any others anyway, there are probably some I haven't heard of). It's even got LGBT supportive events and references safe sex here and there, how many games bother with that, even if they do have sex in them somehow? Stuff like that makes me feel good about the time I put into the game much more than just winning would, so I think really that's why I keep coming back.

I've spent plenty of time playing this game, but I do find it more of a silly and relaxing game rather than a serious one.

People play every game for their own reasons.

I play in two studios. Both are in the top 3 on their servers. I am the boss of one of them.  It *is* silly, lighthearted fun.  But... competitve people compete.  The folks at the top of the glory board spend a lot of effort to get there and stay there. And it takes just as much combined effort for a studio to win a temple, or for a studio to stay at the top of the studio list.

I find competition enjoyable, so I compete. I am not much for the individual glory, but I work hard at helping my studios succeed.

I know some studios that are simply venues for erotic role play. I see some studios that are essentially love nests for a couple. Others are apparently free for all orgies at all times.

Other studios are somewhere in between. That's one of the joys of this game - play as a serious member of a serious team, or just play dressup with the cool clothes, or play without clothes with your studio mates...

There is no right way or wrong way.  (...unless you are a studio ahead of mine, of course. Then you are clearly doing it wrong. xD)
